Beanlet Arrives

November 14, 2008

After hours of dealing with induced labor, Erin underwent a c-section, and the Beanlet (a.k.a. Sean Joseph Perez) was born yesterday evening at 6:40pm. He was 8 pounds 9.5 ounces, and measured in at 20.25 inches long.

Beanlet says, “Sup?”

More later. I have to get back to the hospital to spend time with a recovering momma and brand-new Beanlet.

In the meantime: Beanlet’s First Photos on Flickr.

Win-Win-Win Situation

November 11, 2008

What do you do when the kid is 5 days late & shows no signs of arriving any time soon?

You go to hockey.

Of course.

I noticed that work’s season tickets were available for the Caps vs. Lightning game last night (Glenn & Dan had ours), and it came to me in a flash. If Erin wasn’t giving birth by 4pm, I was going to snag the tickets & we were going to head into the District for the game.

Convincing Erin that this was a good idea was surprisingly easy.

See… I figured if we couldn’t go to the game, or had to leave early, then that meant that Beanlet was finally on his way out. Some progress (any progress!) would be welcomed, and the kid would be born soon thereafter.

Or.

If Beanlet stayed put, at least we got to go to the game.

Win-win, and Win… considering the Caps smoked ‘em and his former teammates hung 4 on Olie Kolzig in a homecoming I’m sure he’d rather have missed.

Week 40: Still Cooking

November 5, 2008

Today was Beanlet’s due date. He did not get the memo.

Erin went into the doctor for a scheduled appointment. They gave her another sonogram to check the amniotic fluid & everything was fine… except the little guy has not moved down to where he needs to be to get out.

According to the fetal monitor, his heart rate is good. Erin is having minor contractions, but none of them are strong enough to affect her cervix, so nothing has really changed.

The doctor will begin inducing the delivery on November 12th if he doesn’t arrive before then.

38 Week Update

October 24, 2008

According to the medical professionals who have recently had their meaty hands in places they don’t belong, the Beanlet weighs between 7.5 and 9.5 pounds. Give or take a pound, or something.

Also: His head is quite large. To the point where, after birth, it may well have its own weather system. It’s more than likely that Beanlet will cry himself to sleep on his huge pillow. But nobody knows for sure until his watermelon head squeezes through places we don’t discuss on this blog.

In effort to collect additional “scientific” data, Erin has her 6th sonogram this coming Tuesday (Oct. 28th). They will measure the baby’s head, among other things… after which they will make more educated guesses as to the sheer mass and girth of Baby Perez.

We fear he may be full-grown before birth. Depending on the elasticity of places we don’t discuss on this blog, a C-section may be in order. But the doctor will have to call an audible before the snap if that’s to happen.

More info as it becomes available.
